It’s old.

That lens might still fit on newer canons but with No autofocus

I can tell you lots about it!

Just kidding I know absolutely nothing, but I can google the model name and find it on wikipedia.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canon_AE-1

The Canon AE-1 is a 35 mm single-lens reflex (SLR) film camera for use with interchangeable lenses. It was manufactured by Canon Camera K. K. (today Canon Incorporated) in Japan from April 1976 to 1984. It uses an electronically controlled, electromagnet horizontal cloth focal plane shutter, with a speed range of 2 to 1/1000 second plus Bulb and flash X-sync of 1/60th second. The camera body is 87 mm tall, 141 mm wide, and 48 mm deep; it weighs 590 g. Most are black with chrome trim, but some are all black.

The AE-1 is a historically significant SLR, both because it was the first microprocessor-equipped SLR and because of its sales. Backed by a major advertising campaign, the AE-1 sold over one million units, which made it an unprecedented success in the SLR market.

Wiki has a ton more info.

A quick search around Ebay and other sites shows that it’s worth about $110-$170 with the body and a 50mm prime (kit lens it seems) in good shape.

Here’s the owner’s manual, by the way:
Part 1: http://www.cameramanuals.org/canon_pdf/canon_ae-1_pt1.pdf
Part 2: http://www.cameramanuals.org/canon_pdf/canon_ae-1_pt11.pdf

Shooting on film is awesome. Hope you have fun with it.

It’s an AE-1 program, it’s a pretty well-regarded camera and was very popular in its day. It was one of the first “P” mode cameras to do auto-exposure. It uses the older manual-focus FD-mount lenses, but other than that it’s basically a modern camera. Load film, Turn the focus ring on the lens and let the camera do the rest when you push the shutter button. IMO, any FD camera is obsolete, but it FD lenses are cheap on eBay so it could be a great inexpensive way to jump into 35mm fim. photography if you are interested. I get most of my vintage camera (digital and film) info from Ken Rockwell. He has a great review of the AE-1 here (he’s pretty keen on it): http://www.kenrockwell.com/canon/fd/ae-1-program.htm

30 years or so. Lenses will NOT fit on more modern Canon EOS gear.

This is an AE-1P. Came out in 1981. Much more advanced exposure control than the AE-1.

From 76 to 84

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canon_AE-1

And like blown head gaskets said lens will not fit modern eos these are fd lenses not EF like modern eos.

Adaptors are available to mount this lens on modern cameras.

I honestly can’t tell you the last time a saw a roll of 35mm film, or any film.

It’s really really old, the lens is made in Japan, and the other lens is really, really long

Minor quibble - it’s an AE-1P which was an updated AE-1 with the programmed auto exposure from the A-1: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canon_AE-1_Program#/search

Film, not auto focus. Made between ‘76 and ‘84.

Buy some film and play around with it, old cameras are really fun.

Just make sure you have somebody who knows what they’re doing load the film, and make sure not to expose it or else you be royally fucked.

It is a Canon AE-1.

Here’s my camera, from 1965.

That was a cool camera back in the day. Not autofocus, but it did have aperture-priority automatic exposure (think “semi-automatic.”)

Check out Ken Rockwell’s site: he has some stuff about that particular camera:

http://www.kenrockwell.com/canon/fd/ae-1-program.htm

...and some stuff about shooting with film cameras:

http://www.kenrockwell.com/tech/how-to-shoot-film.htm

It’s fun! Give it a try.

Fuji Velvia 50 and Kodak Ektar 100 film. You’ll live them for still work and bright light situations.
